Retail on Pelee Island

Island retail

Pelee Island is not like many other high tourist attraction areas. It is not heavily commercialised, it is not overpopulated with shops and man made attractions, and there is, for the most part, very little competition for new business on the island. That, combined with the remote location of the island makes Pelee Island’s retail offerings fairly limited.

The Pelee Shop

The Pelee Shop, in our opinion, is the best place on the island, other than the beach that is, but we might be a little biassed. At our store we try to do things that are a bit different from the other shops on the island. While some of the other shops focus largely on artisan products created by local artists and makers we focus more-so on your traditional souvenirs. At The Pelee Shop you will find the island's widest selection of Pelee Island apparel including t-shirts, sweaters, tank tops, womens apparel, kids apparel, and hats. We also carry a range of other Pelee Island branded products like stickers, patches, pins, and postcards. We also try to offer some less traditional items and have carried products like beach towels, pillows, shot glasses, yo-yo’s, and are always looking for fun new things to add!

We also do our best to carry a small selection of bottled water, pop, and juice, as well as a few different types of chocolate bars, candy, and snacks. And of course we always try to have a small selection of essentials in stock just in case you forgot something at home, things like sunscreen, bug spray, diapers, feminine hygiene products, adult and children’s pain medications (tylenol, advil, etc.), anti-nauseant medications, allergy medications, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and more!

In addition to our store we offer bicycle rentals and basic repairs.

Pelee Island Co-operative association logo

Pelee Island Co-op

The Pelee Island Co-operative Association, or “The Co-op” is Pelee Island’s only general store. They carry basic groceries and hardware items, they are the gas station, and the post office. This is the only place on the island where you are going to find things like milk, eggs, fruit, meat, etc. Their fuel pumps only consist of unleaded gasoline and diesel, there is nowhere on the island to get mid-grade of premium gasoline. The co-op also offers propane tank refills, though at times you may need to leave your tank and come back to pick it up later as they are not always able to fill them on demand.

It is important to note that the co-op is typically closed by early afternoon (2 or 3pm) and is not open on Sundays, so if you need something don’t wait to get it!
