Planning to rent bikes from The Pelee Shop? Before you head out to experience Pelee Island it is important that you review and abide by all of our rental rules. These rules are in place for the safety of all participants and must be followed at all times.
ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST PROPERLY WEAR A HELMET AT ALL TIMES REGARDLESS OF AGE
If you do not have your own helmet one will be provided to you
- All e-bike riders must at least 18 years of age
- Children riding in trailers must be at least 1 year of age and be able to sit on their own
- Children riding in trailers must wear a helmet at all times
- Renters may not install any temporary or permanent accessories or make any modifications to the rental equipment
- Rider occupancy is restricted to the number of seats on each piece of equipment
- Double riding is not permitted (riding on handlebars, on racks, in baskets, etc.)
- Baby wearing is not permitted while riding our bikes
- Bikes must not be shared and may only be used by the intended renter who has filled out the required paperwork
- All participants must fill out their own waiver. Participants 17 years of age and under must have an adult parent or guardian sign on their behalf
- Rental equipment must only be used on public roadways and trails where bicycles are permitted (Please note that most trails on Pelee Island do not permit bicycles). It is your responsibility to know where you can and cannot legally ride.
- EQUIPMENT MUST BE RETURNED AT LEAST 1 HOUR BEFORE YOUR FERRY’S SCHEDULED DEPARTURE TIME!
The ferry will not wait for you if you are late, they will leave you on the island
We do not have anywhere for you to stay the night and accommodations are more often than not fully booked
- Damage beyond standard wear and tear is the responsibility of the renter and repair costs will be charged to their credit card
- A valid credit card is required for all rentals
- Rented equipment must remain on Pelee Island
- Riders must follow all rules of the road including but not limited to
Riding with the flow of traffic (on the right hand side of the road), and moving to a single file line to allow approaching vehicles to pass safely
Use appropriate hand signals when turning or stopping
Stopping at all stop signs
Slow down and make yourself known when passing other bikers or pedestrians
- Renters are not permitted to use any of our equipment while under the influence of any drugs or alcohol
- Always be aware of your surroundings and prepared to take evasive action from vehicles, other bikers, pedestrians, or obstacles in the roads and paths
- Do not crush vegetation alongside roadways or designated biking trails
- Before leaving our store ensure that all components of your equipment are in working order
- Before leaving our store ensure that your seat height is adjusted appropriately

- All persons riding bikes must have the ability to ride the equipment that they are renting - assistive devices such as training wheels are not provided for any of our equipment including kids bikes
