Below is a list of things that we do or may begin to do in the future at The Pelee Shop, as well as things we may specifically be looking for, and therefore a list of things that you could be a part of. Not all employees are required to do all things, and if there is something that you truly love or enjoy doing we are happy to help try to make that a focus for you at The Pelee Shop.
Retail sales
Stocking merchandise, performing inventory counts and making note of items that need re-ordering, running the POS system, organizing/creating merchandising/retail displays, tagging and pricing items
Online sales
We started out as a primarily e-commerce business during covid and then moved into a few different temporary physical locations which made it a challenge to provide proper e-commerce services but now that we have found a permanent home for our business we plan to begin offering online sales again
Checking online orders, pulling/picking inventory in a timely fashion, packaging and preparing orders for shipping
Bike rentals and repairs
We have bicycle mechanics (and are willing to train interested individuals) who maintain our fleet of over 150 rental items, as well as provide maintenance and repair services to customers ranging from flat tire repairs to general part replacements and overhauls
Rental attendants help with taking reservations over the phone, in person, and via email, help organize rental pick ups and deliveries each day, ensuring renters have filled out the appropriate paperwork, answering questions about the island, and may be required to assist with cleaning bicycles and basic maintenance (ie. oiling chains, filling tires, etc.)
We offer free delivery and pick up for all of our rental items island wide and are always looking for a mature individual with a clean driving record to help with this service using a company provided vehicle
Provide tourist information
We get calls almost daily regarding not only our business but other businesses and Pelee Island in general. All employees will become knowledgeable of the island, its businesses, trails, etc. in order to provide this information to tourists
Bike tours
This has future potential if we can find the right staff to help run it. We would offer daily guided bike tours of the island showing a selection of locations around the island, and providing information regarding Pelee Island history, wildlife, plants, modern day information, and more
We design most of our own merchandise, signage, flyers, brochures, packaging, etc. in house
We source and often times even decorate our own merchandise in house
We sew all of our hat patches onto the hats in house and also offer this service to other businesses Canada-wide
We heat press some items in house
We have screen printed many of our items in house in the past and it is possible that we could do some again in the future
We work with suppliers across Canada, the USA, Mexico, and overseas to source and manufacture a variety of our retail items
We would love someone with a strong interest in marketing, social media management, and/or photography to assist with regular social media updates
One of our owners has previously worked in marketing, graphic design, and photography and can therefore provide insight, feedback, and general assistance to someone looking to make their way into that type of industry
If interested we would also be open to someone willing to write website content such as blog posts, tourist information, creating educational assets and writing information regarding Pelee Island ecosystems, wildlife, plantlife, etc.
We try to keep a clean and enticing environment for our visitors
All employees will be required to help with cleaning, tidying, and maintaining our retail location in some way, shape, or form on a daily basis
We try to keep an open mind
We encourage our employees to give us their honest feedback and help contribute to new ideas that can help our business, our island, or the people visiting it, if you think there is a way that you can help us out that maybe we have not thought of please do not hesitate to let us know! You never know we might be able to work something out
We do not, and most likely will not ever sell cigarettes, alcohol, or any other age restricted retail items as we do not feel it necessary or appropriate to put our employees in a situation where they will need to verify customer ages (as the age someone looks can be subjective) for those items nor do we feel it necessary or appropriate to put our employees in a situation where they have to deal with the sneaky tactics of the WECHU, or other government or contracted organizations policing the sales of these items and potential repercussions of mistakenly selling to an underage individual
