Planning to rent bikes from The Pelee Shop? Before you head out to experience Pelee Island it is important that you review and abide by all of our rental rules. These policies are in place for your safety, the safety of others, and the protection of our equipment.
If you have any questions about these policies please ask one of our rental staff.
General Safety & Rider Requirements
Helmets are mandatory for all participants, at all times - no exceptions
This includes children riding in trailers
If you are on our equipment, you are wearing a helmet
Helmets are far cooler than permanent brain injuries or death
Trailer use is strictly limited to children weighing 40 lb (18 kg) or less
Children riding in trailers must be at least 1 year of age and be able to sit on their own
Baby wearing is not permitted while riding our bikes
We do not offer equipment suitable for children under 1 year of age
Rider occupancy is restricted to the number of seats on each piece of equipment - racks, baskets, and handlebars are not seats
The only bikes that permit more than one person at a time are our tandem bikes, with a strict maximum of 2 riders
All riders (with the exception of children in trailers) must already know how to confidently, safely, and independently operate a bicycle, this includes tricycles and tandem bikes - today is not the day to learn
Training wheels or other assistive devices are not provided or permitted for any equipment, including children's bicycles
Our equipment must remain in its original configuration at all times
Do not alter, modify, or add any accessories to our bikes
This includes child carrier seats, tow devices, racks, or any third-party attachments
Return Times & Ferry Departures
ALL EQUIPMENT MUST BE RETURNED AT LEAST 1 HOUR BEFORE YOUR FERRY'S SCHEDULED DEPARTURE TIME
The ferry operated on its own schedule and does not delay departures - they have left people here in the past, and if you are late they will do the same for you
We do not have anywhere for you to stay overnight, and accommodations are more often than not, fully booked - if you miss your ferry you may end up sleeping on a bench
Please pay attention to the time, how long it takes you to get to where you're going, and plan accordingly to ensure that you arrive to the ferry dock with plenty of time to spare (ie, at least 1 hour)
